It is dangerous because it can \u201clive\u201d in the body for a long time without showing itself in any way. Signs of pathology become noticeable only with a decrease in immunity. For women, HPV is dangerous because it can cause the development of cancer of the vagina and cervix.<\/p>\n
The human papillomavirus provokes a number of gynecological diseases: urogenital warts, chronic cervicitis, dysplasia of the vulva, vagina, cervical erosion.<\/p>\n
Cervical erosion is a disease that affects about 50% of women of childbearing age.<\/p>\n
In addition, papillomaviruses can cause cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancer. However, the presence of the papillomavirus does not always lead to the development of these dangerous diseases, the general state of the body’s defense mechanisms, the presence of various kinds of gynecological and somatic diseases, the level of viral load and the type of papillomavirus play a huge role.<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udfe0 Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide; an estimated 604 000 new cases and 342 000 deaths in 2020. About 90% of new cases and deaths in 2020 occurred in low- and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udfe0 Nearly 50% of serious precancerous cervical lesions are caused by two types of HPV (16 and 18).<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udfe0 HPV is transmitted primarily through sexual contact, and most people become infected with HPV soon after they become sexually active. In more than 90% of those infected, the infection eventually goes away on its own.<\/p>\n
\ud83d\udfe0 A cost-effective method of preventing cervical cancer is HPV vaccination in combination with screening and treatment of precancerous lesions.<\/p>\n

Papillomavirus infection (PVI) is so common and its consequences are so significant that, taking into account the costs of its diagnosis and treatment of all possible pathologies, for example, in the USA it is considered the most expensive infection after AIDS. The cost of investment in research and treatment of HPV is in the region of 1.6-6 billion dollars a year.<\/p>\n
To date, specific drugs for the treatment of papillomavirus infection have not been created. The processes of creating and introducing vaccines have not yet been completed with complete success. The discovery of the role of HPV has also led, to some extent, to a surge in overtreatment. However, the development of new technologies today makes it possible to choose a more competent individual and sparing treatment method for each specific patient.<\/p>\n
The probability of spontaneous “clearance” from HPV-carriage and the possibility of self-healing inclines a number of researchers to observe, especially in adolescents. But each specific case of pathology has its own tactics.<\/p>\n
There is an opinion that HPV infection cannot be cured and, accordingly, there is no point in conducting therapy. It’s a delusion. We can completely eliminate the virus from the body at the stage of virus carriage (before the introduction of HPV into cells). But even if there is an integrated form of HPV (HPV has managed to invade cells), treatment should be carried out, as this will reduce the viral load, reduce the risk of developing dysplasia and cervical cancer.<\/p>\n
