BE CAREFUL, SUNSHINE!

#SYSTEMPHARMHEALTH

❓ WHAT ARE SUN PROTECTORS?

Sun protection (SPF) filters in sun creams are divided into chemical and physical (mineral) filters. The chemical ones work as absorbers of UV rays, the physical ones as reflectors of ultraviolet rays.

In recent years, many dermatologists have advised giving preference to mineral filters as more effective. How to understand that you have a cream with a mineral filter in front of you? The composition must contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.

Also sunscreens are divided into:

🟡 products with a low degree of protection – 4 or 6 SPF,

🟠 medium degree of protection – 15 or 20,

🟤 high degree of protection – 30 or 50.

Sunscreen are selected according to the phototype, that is, the lighter the skin, the higher the degree of protection to be chosen.

❓ SUNSCREEN CREAM OR SUNTAN CREAM – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

As a rule, a sunscreen means a product that blocks UV rays to the maximum, with a high SPF. And speaking of suntan cream, they mean a sunscreen with a low SPF (up to 15), which allows you to get a tan. But it’s important to understand that the very appearance of the tan already indicates that the skin is not protected from the sun.

📌 INTERESTING FACTS

📣 Some beach resorts prohibit the use of sunscreen. Products with chemical sunscreens can be harmful to the environment. For example, oxybenzone is one of the recognized culprits in coral reef damage. So, since 2018, the sale of cosmetics containing oxybenzone and octinoxate has been banned in Hawaii, other states are also considering similar bans.

📣 Most people use sunscreen incorrectly. By distributing the SPF product on the facial skin, we usually pass from 11 to 21% of the surface. The area around the eyes is often overlooked – the thinnest and most sensitive.

📣 Vitamin D, which is very important for the body, is called the “sunshine vitamin” because it is formed in the epidermis of the skin under the influence of ultraviolet rays of sunlight from provitamin D3.

📣 Shade and cloudy weather can reduce vitamin D production by 60%.

📣 Ultraviolet light, which is necessary for the synthesis of vitamin D3, does not penetrate through glass, clothing and sunscreen.

📣 In 2017, scientists from Touro University (California, USA) conducted a study according to which sunscreens with SPF 15 and higher reduce the production of vitamin D3 from 7-dehydrocholesterol in the human body by 99%.

Finally, we would like to note that the use of sunscreens is certainly necessary, but at the same time, the use of these products prevents the sufficient synthesis of vitamin D in the body, so do not forget that SYSTEM PHARM has DETRISELECT – a fat-soluble form of vitamin D in various dosages:
